Springhill, NS - It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of William "Billy" Porter , 68, of Springhill on Friday, October 17th at the All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Springhill, NS, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Meekins) Porter. Billy previously worked for Oxford Frozen Foods and Nova Scotia Department of Highways. He loved to spend his time outdoors and was always planning his next hunting or fishing trip and when able he enjoyed going hunting with his nephew Josh. On his way to fishing he liked to stop and visit with his brother Johnny. Billy enjoyed going for walks and also liked his drives to Five Islands or up to Bouctouche to visit his sister Evelyn and her family. He was a kind hearted man who was gentle to all. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Evelyn Simon (Wilfred) of Bouctouche, NB; his brother, John Porter (Vicki) of Collingwood, NS, several nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephews, special cousins, Mark and Joey and his best hunting buddy Paul Farnell. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 21 from 1-2 pm, followed immediately by a funeral service at 2 pm, both at MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford with Rev. K. Ruth Gamble officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. The family wish to send a special thank you to Arnold Greenhow for taking Billy to his medical appointments and also thank you to Dr. Collette Sauveur. Donation in Billy's memory made be made to the I.W.K Foundation or charity of donor's Choice.
