William James
Emberley
Jun 20, 1944 — Sep 30, 2026
Upper Malagash
William James Emberley—known simply as Bill—passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, surrounded by the family who meant the world to him. He was 82 years young.
Born in the coastal town of Bay de Verde, Newfoundland, to the late Stephen and Mahalla (Tucker) Emberley, Bill carried that classic island grit and dry sense of humor wherever he went. He eventually made his way to Ontario, spending years at the factory mastering the art of box-making—honest, practical work for a man who preferred keeping things straightforward and sensible.
Nothing made Bill prouder than his 59-year marathon of marriage to his beloved wife, Daphne Rose (Cluney), and the life they built together across nearly six decades.
His legacy lives on through his sons, Stephen (Charmaine) of Barrie, ON, and David (Julie Losier) of Nine Mile River, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Hannah, Mackenzie, Austin, and Darcy. He is also survived by three sisters and a wide circle of nieces and nephews, and was reunited in rest with his parents, brother, and sister.
True to his modest, no-nonsense nature, Bill requested that no formal, services be held. Instead, he’d encourage you to raise a glass, share a good story, and hold your loved ones a little closer today.
In memory of Bill, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are deeply appreciated by the family.
