Obituary

Stella Marie Waugh, 84, of Tatamagouche, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche.

Born in Tatamagouche, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Marr) Waugh. Stella was a well-known person in the village, often seen walking steadily alongside her dear friend, Jessie Laurie. She was a kind soul, always willing to lend a hand to those in need, whether it was offering a ride or assisting in any way she could. Her life was simple and full of contentment, spent enjoying the peaceful beauty of the family home on Jim Sutherland Road, and often picking blueberries along the banks of the Waugh River.

In recent months, Stella made her home at Maplewood Manor in Tatamagouche, where she was surrounded by the care and love of the staff and residents. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and while she is deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Stella is lovingly remembered by nieces, Helen Sharpe (Merle Gordon), Barbara MacKay, Rose Stewart (Doug), Ruth Waugh, Lynn McNutt; nephews, Dougie Cotter, Ernie Cotter, Billy Cotter (Bonnie), Kenneth MacIntosh; many great nieces and nephews and cousins. Stella had a special spot for her great- great nieces Lina, Marlee and Maisie (Chelsea and Alex) and great- great nephews, Waylon (Megan and Daniel) and Johnny (Darcy and Beth).

She was predeceased by her brothers Carl, Walter, and Lorne; sisters Vivian Cotter and Emma MacIntosh; as well as her niece Sheila Boutiler, nephew Wayne, and great-nephew Michael.

A private family interment will take place at Lockerby Memorial Cemetery, in accordance with Stella's wishes.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her kindness, generosity, and simple, loving spirit will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
