Shirley
Comeau
Mar 29, 1947 — Nov 1, 2025
River Hebert
Comeau, Shirley Elizabeth Margaret - 78, of River Hebert, passed away peacefully with family by her side Saturday, November 1, 2025 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Amherst. Born in Joggins, Nova Scotia to the late John and Flora McKinnon (Vienneau) on March 29, 1947, she was the oldest of 13 children. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Bernell; and their two daughters, Cheryl Comeau (Eric Goulden) and Kathleen Comeau-McAlpin (Greg McAlpin); grandchildren, Allysa Bickford, Calgary, Alberta; Bryce and Logan Bickford and Natalyia McAlpin, all of Airdrie, Alberta; nine sisters and three brothers and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was a beautiful baker and shared her baked goods with family and friends in her community; she was also well known for her preserves often made with produce from her garden. She took great joy in perfecting her garden and up until a few years ago creating beautiful flower beds. A proud member of the CWL (Catholic Women's League) she devoted much of her time to service and faith. Early in her life she worked as a telephone operator in both Oxford and River Hebert, and later a duty aid and an EA at the Elementary School, she cherished her time at the school, touching many young lives. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who visited Shirley in hospital, the many VON staff for their special care they provided at home, and to the staff at CRHCC for the care in her final weeks. Shirley will be remembered for her generosity and the love she shared with those around her. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. Funeral mass will be held at 11 am Friday, November 7 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Joggins, with a reception following the burial at the Joggins Legion. Memorial donations can be made to the River Hebert School Breakfast Program.
