Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Sheila Mills Frost, age 86, on August 4, 2023, in Pugwash. She was predeceased by her parents Walter Earle and Edith (Chipman), her brother John Earle (partner Corinne Earle), her loving husband Eldon Mills with whom she had three children, and her later in life loving husband Charles Frost. She is survived by children Janet Mills (partner David Farrell), Brian Mills (partner Paule Poulin), and Bruce Mills; grandchildren Molly Fraser, Nolan Fraser, Patrick Mills, and Hillary Murray; great-grandchild Savannah Murray; sisters Carol MacKay (partner Peter MacKay), and Jennifer Smith (partner David Smith). Sheila was spent some early years in Dartmouth and in Sydney and was a gifted violinist winning every competition she entered for her ability. She went to Dalhousie University to study science. She would work in a research lab in Toronto, and then taught chemistry to medical laboratory students in Halifax where she met her husband Eldon who was also teaching chemistry there. Mum was spontaneous, brave, and full of fun, but with a very serious practical side as well. Her students would remember her for being organized and strict about what was expected of them. Mum and Dad would eventually move to Melrose, Guysborough Co., where they would have a U-Pick strawberry business. She had a glorious infectious laugh and included everyone in her joy for life. She was very involved in the United Church and especially in all aspects that involved music and kindness. She would later teach piano and violin to young and old students, including her mother-in-law who was 95 at the time. She was part of classical orchestras and old-time bands. The old-time band 'The Old Timers' would play for many events in the area and spread joy wherever they went. Mum and Dad would eventually move back to the city in Dartmouth. Mum took every pursuit she was on very seriously and went into things wholeheartedly be it walking with her dogs 10km a day, working on soduko puzzles, playing music for nursing homes with her brother, or playing bridge which she was a life master and sharp as a razor. Eventually mum would move to Parkland - Shannex where she met another wonderful man who thought so highly of her and would sometimes sing his love for her (Charles Frost). They would marry in the facility itself in a beautiful wedding. Mum would eventually have cognitive issues, but even with this challenge, she still remained joyful, fun, and full of music. She was a joy to be around wherever she went and especially made time for children and older people. She never worried about the big problems and took great joy in 'the little things'. Her passing was as peaceful as anyone might hope and we would like to thank the kind staff of East Cumberland Lodge for all that they do.
