Obituary

MacDonald, Allan Roderick "Rod" - 82, Oxford, passed away Friday, July 3rd, 2026 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Leo and Anna Mae (Terris) MacDonald.

Rod began his 35-year career with the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) on October 12, 1965, and rose through the ranks to become Coordinator of Correctional Operations. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as Leader of the Emergency Response Team and as a Weapons Instructor. One of the proudest highlights of his career was being selected to represent CSC's Atlantic Region during Canada's 125th Anniversary celebrations, where he had the honour of attending a luncheon with Queen Elizabeth II at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Affectionately known as "The Commander" by colleagues and friends, Rod was respected for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to public service. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rod devoted countless hours to volunteering in his community. He served as the provincial representative on the Town of Oxford Police Board, was a firefighter, a longtime member and King Lion of the Oxford and Area Lions Club, founded a Recreation Action Group for the Town of Oxford, and managed Oxford and Area Minor Hockey teams. His willingness to serve others left a lasting impact on the community he loved.

Rod and his beloved wife, Timble, spent many years enjoying winters in Florida, where family often joined them for cherished March vacations. Together they travelled extensively, although Rod's favourite destination remained St. Maarten in the Caribbean. On June 22, 2026, Rod and Timble celebrated a remarkable milestone - 60 years of marriage. Anyone who knew Rod knew of his deep love for his camp, "The Villa." It was a place where family and friends were always welcomed with a meal, a four-wheeler ride, or an evening around the bonfire. From May through September, the cottage became his second home. Whether relaxing on the deck, swimming in the ocean, or working on his tan, Rod found great joy and peace there. Above all else, Rod's greatest pride and accomplishment was his family. His children and grandchildren were the centre of his world and remained an active and cherished part of his life. Camp days, holidays, and Sunday suppers were especially meaningful to him, bringing everyone together to share meals, laughter, love, and memories that will be treasured forever.

Rod is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Timble Thompson; daughter, Shannon MacDonald (Bruce Rushton); son, Ryan (Kelly); grandchildren, Sidney (Nate) Warham; Paige Oickle (Reese McLean); Jack and Max MacDonald; bonus granddaughters, Emily (Carman) Sherman and Makayla Rushton (Nick Campbell); and great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Dallas; sister, Elizabeth (Bob) Gillis; sister-in-law, Betty MacDonald.

He was predeceased by sister, Virginia (Roger) McCormick; brother, Sammy
