It's with great sadness that we, the family of Pearl McCabe, announce her passing on June 24, 2022, at the age of 94 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre after a brief illness. Pearl was born in Springhill on January 27, 1928 and was the eldest child of the late Rose (Coon) and Harry Newcombe. She made a life with her husband George in Folly Lake and raised two daughters. Pearl was a school teacher for 35 years, with the majority being spent teaching grade three at Debert Elementary. She became a favourite teacher to many students over the years. Pearl was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and always worried about her family; she was warm, loving and a friend to many. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed gardening, playing Scrabble with friends and getting over to see family and attend the All Saints Anglican Church in Springhill when she was able. She was the perfect grandmother and full of love. Aside from her parents, Pearl was predeceased by her husband George McCabe in 1997, her only brother Alden Newcombe, and her brothers-in-law, Basil Dickson and Murray Nicholson. Left to mourn Pearl are her daughters Valerie (Dave Newell) of Masstown; Tara (Scott Higgins) of Edmonton; granddaughter Abbe Vance of Victoria, B.C.; grandson Liam Vance (Craig MacDonald) of Onslow; great granddaughter Allie Appel of Nanaimo, B.C.; and great grandson Benjamin Appel of Masstown. She is also survived by her sisters Rose Nicholson and Jean Dickson, both in Springhill. Pearl also leaves many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews to mourn her loss. She was "Aunt Bo" to many who hail from Springhill and she will be thoroughly missed by all the above and then some. Pearl was a selfless human being and wouldn't want anyone to be sad at her passing. Instead, please do an act of kindness to honour her life. She was beautiful inside and out. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. July 23, 2022 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford.
