In Loving Memory of
Nicholas Frank Overland
June 28, 1978 – October 24, 2026
Nicholas Frank Overland, 48, left this life suddenly following a brief, acute illness, with loved ones by his side. Though his time with us was far too short, Nick faced his final battle with the same courage and determination that defined so much of his life. He fought a valiant fight, and left this world swinging—just as a champion would. His idol, Mike Tyson, would be proud.
Born on June 28, 1978, Nick was the son of Starleen Overland of Yarmouth and the late Thomas Orman of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Above all else, Nick’s greatest love was his family. His children, Benjamin Nicholas and Paityn Isabelle, were always at the forefront of his thoughts and forever held a special place in his enormous, gentle heart. His love for them was deep and unwavering, and they were an inseparable part of who he was.
Nick also leaves behind his loving, heartbroken partner of 10 years. Perhaps it was simply life’s way of bringing their story full circle: ten years to the day they first met, they said their final goodbye. The date that brought them together will forever be a reminder of the love they shared, the life they built, and the memories that will remain in her heart always. Survived by Thelma Langille, and her children, Zachary and Alicia; his sisters, Star Overland (Chris), Shauna Overland and Chereyse Overland; and his half-brothers, Michael and the late Tommy. Nick is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins whom he thought the world of. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Nick had a brilliant mind, a remarkable sense of humour, and a gift for connecting with people. He loved a good conversation, sharing a joke, doing an impression of a favourite character, or simply getting to know someone. He had a way of making people smile and could turn even an ordinary moment into a memorable one. He also trusted his instincts, often reminding others that “his gut was never wrong”.
Curiosity was one of Nick’s defining qualities. He loved finding answers to the toughest questions and offering solutions to life’s problems, whether anyone had asked for his advice or not. He had a natural ability to engage people in conversation and could captivate an audience with his knowledge of countless subjects. He lived by the belief that we should never stop learning, and he truly embodied that philosophy throughout his life.
Already educated in business and accounting, Nick returned to school at the age of 44 to pursue another passion: cars. His determination and love of learning led him to graduate with honours in 2022 from NSCC Yarmouth, earning credentials in Automotive Service and Repair. Along the way, he received scholarships, bursaries and awards, while building friendships and demonstrating that it is never too late to follow a dream.
Nick had many interests and loved a little friendly competition. Whether watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays, enjoying Saturday night boxing, or challenging someone to a spirited political debate, he was always ready to share his opinions and knowledge. His time at the City of Lakes Boxing Club was especially meaningful to him, bringing back cherished memories of his youth, his athleticism and the satisfaction of being part of the sport he loved.
Nick was a fighter in every sense of the word: intelligent, determined, passionate and unapologetically himself. He had so much more life to live, so many more adventures to experience, and so many more goals to reach. His sudden passing leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, but his humour, wisdom, stories and love will continue to live on in the memories he leaves behind.
At Nick’s request, there will be no visitation or public service. A private family tribute will be held at a later date.

Though there were so many adventures left to have and goals left to reach, we are grateful that we were blessed to have you grace our lives. We take comfort in knowing that your soul no longer struggles and that you are finally at peace.
