Obituary

Nancy Lynn Haner, 67, Truro, went home to be with her Lord Saviour Jesus Christ on September 12, 2021. She passed away peacefully after a brief battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Nancy is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband of 49 years, David, her son Barry Haner (Nikki), daughter, Jennifer Wright (Dana), grandchildren: Alyssa Wright, Hayley Haner, Carter Haner and Myah Wright, her sister Patricia Taylor (David), adopted by family brother Michael Brazeau, sister-in-law Marion Sinnett (née Haner) brother-in-law Stephen Haner (Karen) and many very special nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Nancy was born to Delbert and Lillian Carter in Oxford, NS in the house of her Aunt Ruth, who was the mid-wife, on October 28, 1953. She spent her early childhood in Oxford, but after her father joined the Canadian Forces, she grew up in both Toronto and Ottawa. In her teens she met the love of her life and was married in 1972 to David Haner. She started her career working with the Ottawa Schoolboard, Otis Elevator and Trinity Church of the Nazarene in administrative and bookkeeping positions. After her husband's career brought her to Nova Scotia, she decided she wanted to be a fulltime mom (something she excelled at) and be an at home caregiver for other children. After the kids were old enough, she re-entered the workforce with Newton L. Sobey and Associates as a bookkeeper and administrative support on a part-time basis because she wanted to be home and support her children and husband still. She worked for Newton for 22 years. She also continued working for churches in administrative rolls at Windsor Church of the Nazarene and Truro Wesleyan Church (now Connection Church) until last year. Mom was a very proud mother and grandmother and enjoyed family gatherings to celebrate birthdays and holidays. New Years Day celebrations with family friends the Wight's started in the 80's and became a yearly multi generational gathering both families looked forward to. Her infectious laughter could always be heard at these times of celebration. Mom loved to chase down a deal or sale pricing. One of the best days to do this was on Black Friday. Mom and Jennifer made this a yearly event, making sure vacation days were booked well in advance. They shopped until they dropped while dad carried the bags and entertained Myah. She was blessed to have traveled the world with her husband; it started with a Caribbean Cruise, then a trip to Swaziland, Africa, then a Hawaiian Cruise and a trip to China. These were cherished memories. The family would like to thank the family doctor Dr. Bruce Phillips and all the Doctors, nurses and staff from the CEHCC that helped her in her final weeks. The family would really appreciate any donation to be made in her memory go to Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease through Alzheimer Society . This rare 1 in a million disease robbed us of many more years with Nancy. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Oxford. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021. Funeral to take place at 2 p.m., September 21, 2021. Both will be held at Connection Church, 38 Pleasant Street, Truro.
