Obituary

Murlina Mills , 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, in Pugwash, NS, at East Cumberland Lodge, where she has been residing for the past three years. She was well known there as the dancing queen, getting everyone one up to dance and didn't take no for an answer. Also known as the bingo queen, where she could be seen at the end of the table with seven (or more) cards spread out. She could also be seen doing puzzles, Find a word, colouring, knitting, crocheting and going for a walk down to the thrift store with her good friend Jen. (As Jen put it, "we were just two little hobos). Murlina loved all the staff (whom she liked to joke with, could be heard throwing out her quick wittiness to) and residents whom she loved to visit with. Murlina is survived by her daughter Gayle, son Murray (Mel) and daughter-in-law, Bev; many grandchildren, Trycinda (Braydon), Tianna (Jimmy), Travis (Lauryn), Kenny, Melissa (Ryan), Sandy (Sheena), Chris (Danielle), JR (Susie); and 17 great-grandchildren; also by her brothers Gerry (Heather) and Larry (Marion) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Roy, her son Timothy, her parents Murlie and Catherine "Katie" (Rector) MacLellan. Born in Lower Economy, moved around a lot till they moved up on Clairmount. She then moved to Wawa, Ont. with Roy, where they raised their 3 children. Murlina worked at the Viking Restaurant for several years before she started her job at the Northern Store, where she could be found managing the men's and shoe departments. Murlina enjoyed dances, cross country skiing, playing cards, friends and family get togethers, fishing, camping, bowling and walking. They made many great friends in Wawa. After 30 year she moved back to Springhill, where her husband joined her when he retired. She started a job at Seagull Pewter. Back in NS she enjoyed dancing on the weekends, darts, cards, family get togethers, and going out for drives. Years after Murlina's husband passed, she found friendship with Bill Bowser, another dance partner. She enjoyed when family came to visit and take her out for drives, stop along the way for a good plate of fish n' chips and a tasty ice cream. Murlina will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. A celebration of Murlina's life will be held from 2-4 pm on Monday, August 11 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium. Donations in Murlina's memory may be made to the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash .
