Obituary

Michael Fredrick Allan Casey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Fredrick Allan Casey of Springhill, Nova Scotia. Born October 12, 1980, in Amherst, Mike was the beloved son of Claude “Clancy” and Margaret Casey. A lifelong Springhiller, Mike loved his community, his family, his friends, and being outdoors. Mike was a devoted husband to his wife, Devin. They met years ago at the Thistle in New Glasgow, NS and together built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their two daughters, Logan (9) and Kennedy (6). Becoming parents was one of life's greatest blessings, and their girls brought immeasurable happiness to his life. Mike greatest passion was being a dad. He loved taking his girls camping and going to Yogi Bear, which Kennedy lovingly called “BooBoos.” He enjoyed movie nights at home, spending time together, and creating memories with his family. Logan remembers eating lobster with her dad, snuggling with him, and having him rub her back. Kennedy remembers going shopping with her dad for skincare and makeup. Devin has countless memories of Mike that she will always hold close. One that still makes her smile is from their first Christmas together. Mike went into the woods to cut down a tree for their front yard, and when he came bouncing back with it, Devin laughed and told him he looked like the Grinch stealing Christmas. It's a memory that still brings a smile to her face. Mike was very close with his Uncle Reg and Aunt Cheryl and spent a lot of time with them. Those who grew up with Mike may remember him standing at the end of the driveway yelling, “REG! CAN I COME OVER?” In his spare time, Mike loved spending time in the woods and outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and spending time at the camp with his friends. He also looked forward to travelling to Newfoundland each year with friends to go four-wheeling. Mike had a passion for firefighting from the time he was a little boy. His love of fire started early, including the time he went into a field as a child, started a fire, and put a cardboard box over it to see what would happen. His fascination with fire never left him, and as he grew older, it became something he was able to turn into a lifelong passion through his years as a volunteer firefighter with the Trenton Fire Department. Mike also spent time working as a correctional officer since 2014. There he made many lifelong friends who became an important part of his life. Mike will be deeply missed by his wife, Devin; his daughters, Logan and Kennedy; his parents, Claude “Clancy” and Margaret Casey; his extended family; the Walsh’s and Kings; his many friends; his fellow guards; and everyone who had the chance to know him. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm, followed by a service of remembrance for Mike's family and close friends at 3 pm, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium. A private family internment service at Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the IWK Foundation in support of the Diabetic Clinic. To make a targeted monetary gift, please call the IWK Foundation at 902-470-8085 and request that the donation be made in Mike’s honour.
