It is with broken hearts that we the family of Merrill Jamieson announce his passing on Sept 11, 2025 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst. Born June 23, 1937 in Fox Harbour he packed several lifetimes into his time here with us. From an early age Merrill was no stranger to hard work. At the age of 17 he was working in the woods of Cumberland County in the days of horses and hand tools. He started work at the Windsor Salt Company in Pugwash on March 29, 1965 until his retirement on April 30, 1996. For 57 seasons, Merrill fished lobster in the Northumberland Strait from the port of Wallace. He tied up the Serendipity for the last time in 2010 retiring his lobster licence and stayed ashore. That decision weighed on him but said he wouldn't miss the freezing east winds at 4am. Merrill could fix almost anything and many people benefitted from his unique brand of ingenuity. He was always there for his family, neighbors and community. Merrill loved and provided for his family in a way that will continue to serve as an example to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His memory will live on and will be celebrated for years to come for those he leaves behind. He is survived by the love of his life, Sylvia, his wife of 64 years. His son Glenn (Gina), daughter Alison (Mike), son-in-Law Peter (Tracey), sister-in-law Elva, brother-in-law Donald (Donna). His story will live on and be remembered through his grandchildren Tyler, William (Chelsie), Aiden, Cameron (Brooke), Ethan (Emilie), Ashlin and great grandchildren Petra, Claire, Maverick and Kasen, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Otto and Irene, son Ronald (in infancy), daughter Heather, brothers Richard and Jerry, sister-in-law Francis, brother-in-law Carl (Annie).
Funeral Service will be at 2pm Wednesday September 17, 2025 at St Andrew's United Church, Fox Harbour. Rev. Connie McNamara officiating. Burial immediately following with time of remembrance and reflection in the church basement.
Donations in memory may be made to St. Andrew's United Church, Fox Harbour or Fox Harbour Community Cemetary.
