Wood, Mary Jeannette - 102, Oxford, passed away December 18th, 2023 in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Jessie (Keillor) Hickman. May was a long-time member and first female deacon of Oxford Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday School. In her early years, she owned and operated a jewelry store in Oxford. Mary was then a nurse's aid for many years and worked at the former Pugwash Hospital; she cared for a number of elderly people. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Purdy; Beverley Duncan; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Linda (Rick) Adshade. She was predeceased by her husband, Milford "Mutt" Wood; brother, Renforth; grandson, Michael. A reception and visitation will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, September 12 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford, all are welcome.
