Mary Bertha
Rushton
Sep 21, 1935 — Apr 7, 2024
West New Annan
Mary Bertha Rushton, 88, West New Annan, Colchester County, NS, passed away in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, NS, on April 7, 2024. Mary was born on September 21, 1935, in West New Annan, Nova Scotia, to the late Aubrey and Annie (Miller) Rushton. She is survived by two sisters, Edna Langille, Pugwash, and Florence (Wayne) Cochrane, Lower Sackville, as well as seven nieces and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Aubrey, Frank and Bill and sister, Elizabeth Byers.
Mary grew up in West New Annan, NS, and after leaving high school worked as a live-in-caregiver for several families throughout Nova Scotia for many years. This career brought her to Truro where she lived and was employed for 18 years in the Cafeteria at the Nova Scotia Teachers College. Mary left her job at NSTC to live with and care for her mother in West New Annan when her mother could no longer live alone. Mary eventually moved to Tatamagouche, where she became a long-time resident at the Hills of Annand. Throughout her life, Mary made numerous blood donations and was recognized by the Canadian Red Cross for her generous contributions. Mary was a faithful United Church attendee both in Tatamagouche and Truro. Mary loved spending time with family and family loved her visits, her sense of humor and kind heartedness, always putting others before herself. She was a kind, gentle soul who made a difference for others, continuing to help friends and neighbours well into her later years at the Hills of Annand.
