Mary
Mattinson
Jul 12, 1928 — Dec 12, 2024
Riverview
The family of
Mary Isabel Mattinson
is very saddened to announce her passing at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, on December 12, 2024. Born on July 12, 1928 in Bayhead, NS, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Pearl (Pipes) MacDonald. She attended the one-room school in Bayhead and graduated from Oxford High School where she met Donn. They married on June 8, 1948 and enjoyed 72 happy years together. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, River View.
Mary's total focus in life was caring for Donn and their three children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was so proud of her entire family. She was a wonderful homemaker and hostess who thoroughly enjoyed hosting family dinners, especially over the Christmas season, for as many as thirty people with preparations beginning in early December. She valued this time spent with loved ones. A stylish lady, Mary loved coordinating her clothes and jewellery, choosing from a wide array of colours. Mary and Donn spent many years traveling and camping in their much-loved motor home frequenting countless yard sales.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverley (Ross) Fraser, Salt Springs, Pictou County; her son, Dwayne (Sara Jewell), River View; her daughter-in-law, Joan Mattinson, River View; seven grandchildren: Christopher, Kevin and Margaret Mattinson; Donn and Peter Fraser; Jason and Amanda Mattinson; many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donn; her son, Adair; an infant son; her sister, Elva Black; her brothers, Rod, Ken and Stewart.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, for the exceptional and compassionate care and love provided to Mary and her family.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 15 from 1-3 pm followed immediately by a funeral service at 3pm, both in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford, with Mr. Lawry MacLeod officiating.
Donations in Mary's memory may be made to
