Mary Anne
Conrad
Oct 26, 1950 — Nov 14, 2024
Hammonds Plains
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Anne Conrad. Born in Halifax, NS, Mary Anne was the daughter of the late Lillian Patricia Wilson (Mason) and Alonzo LeRoy Wilson. She is predeceased by her son, Paul Wilson Murphy and third husband, Curtis Freeman Conrad. Mary Anne is survived by her two brothers, Jamie Lee Wilson and Alonzo Patrick Wilson, as well as her one niece, Kimberley Anne Wilson. Mary Anne had a small but loving family surrounded by many step-children and grandchildren once she took on the Conrad name, all of who were with her during her peaceful transition.
Mary Anne started off her career following in her mother's footsteps working as a young Sterile Processing Technician at the Victoria General Hospital in the early seventies. She then moved into the Neurosurgery Unit as a Ward Clerk, where she worked until her retirement in the early nineties. She had married twice before and according to her brother, "loved Elizabeth Taylor", but decided to settle on her third marriage to Crazy Curtis as he was aptly known. "Third time was a charm" she would always say with a smile on her face, and Curtis in the background chiming in with "Oh Mary".
Mary Anne and Curtis Conrad were very Nomadic at the start of their union, living in various areas of Halifax. Very soon after, they tried Dartmouth, then Pugwash, then Tatamagouche and then took a long trip out to Vancouver. Their realization of life out West, and missing the East, they decided to come back and settle into the quiet urban area of Colchester County.
As age took hold, they spent some time together in the Northumberland Hall long term care center. Wanting to be closer to family and friends, they moved back to Halifax and to the Whitehills long term care facility in Pockwock, where they stayed together as a couple of almost 30 years.
Mary Anne loved spending time with her family and loved animals. In particular, her small dog "Bear" who she had for many years. Not being able to keep animals in her new home, she would wait for her step-daughter Faye and step-grandchild Lacey-Faye, to visit with their little jackaranian dog "Finley". Mary Anne's eyes would light up as Finley would enter and tear around her room. She also enjoyed the many visits and long conversations with her younger brother Jamie, as he would drop in and take her out for lunches and other activities.
She was alternatively known as "Grammy" by all the children, and loved to show them the "bedazzled" items she would decorate. Mary Anne, or Grammy would put those rhinestones and studs on everything. Mary Anne added a sparkle to everything and everyone she came across.
Her family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of the Whitehills Long Term Care Center where Mary Anne and her late husband Curtis, both lived out the remainder of their lives together. Without Diane, Brittnay and Jacob in recreation, and all of the wonderful support staff of the facility, they would not have been able to experience the joy and entertainment of life as they knew it while there. It was because of this team that both passed with family members by their side. They were never alone and always together.
A small graveside service will be held by the family, 10 am, Friday, November 22nd in the William Black Memorial Cemetery, 10621 St. Margarets Bay Road, Glen Margaret.
