Angevine Lake

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Diane Patriquin of Angevine Lake, N.S., on October 11, 2026, at North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash, N.S.

Marie was born in Springhill, N.S., and grew up with her family in Wentworth, N.S. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Ella (Blair) Patriquin; her brothers-in- law, Bobby Madore and Doug Barley; and her nephew, Joey Madore. Marie is lovingly remembered and forever missed by her husband and best friend of 35 years, Ross Henderson; her beloved son, Anthony Purdy of New Annan, N.S.; her pride and joy, grandchildren Dylan, Hailey, Graison and Toni, and great-grandson Bobbi; her cherished sisters, Narda Madore (the late Bobby) of Bible Hill, N.S.; Connie Barley (Michael Theriault) of Debert, N.S.; and Karen (Louis) Dallaire of Wentworth, N.S.; her brothers, Barry Patriquin of Wallace, N.S., and Kyle Murray of Bible Hill, N.S.; and many adored nieces and nephews.

In her younger years, Marie worked alongside her sisters and brother at her parents’ service station, inn and take-out business in Wentworth, N.S. It was a natural progression to co-owning the Shell garage and convenience store in Pugwash, N.S., in the 1980s. With her sharp mind for business and her strong customer service, she made

Purdy’s Shell a favourite spot in town. In 1993, Marie found her creative calling and opened Stitch Craft, her seamstress business, on the ground floor of her and Ross’s home on Water Street in Pugwash. Her co-worker and dear friend, Elizabeth Bezanson, helped Marie in the early years, before Marie carried on the business on her own. It was a labour of love for 35 years, and Marie had an amazing following of customers, many of whom became lifelong friends.

With a true community spirit, Marie spent many years volunteering with the Pugwash Legion as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She took great pride in running the canteen for Bingo every week and enjoyed the camaraderie with her regular customers. In recent years, she enjoyed volunteering with a passionate group of ladies at The Fireplace in Wallace, N.S.

Marie was truly like no other: a very compassionate, caring, wise and forgiving person who always knew how to make those around her feel safe and heard. She always had time to listen and to show interest. She could put a smile on every face just by walking into a room! Her quick wit, sassy comebacks and feisty spirit were pure gifts to all those fortunate enough to love her and be loved by her. Ross would like to extend a special thank you to Karen and Louis Dallaire, as well as Nicole Keiver and Tim Boyd, for their continuous support and love; it is so appreciated.

Thank you also to Martha Ferguson and the staff of the Care Unit at North Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Pugwash, N.S., for the compassionate care given to Marie.

In keeping with Marie’s wishes, arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle’s Funeral Home, Pugwash, N.S. A celebration of life will be held in Wentworth, N.S., at the Wentworth Rec Center on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 4p.m. to 7p.m. A private interment ceremony will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Fireplace in Wallace, N.S., or to a charity of your choice in Marie’s memory.
