It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Malcolm Tizzard, age 73, of Oxford, Nova Scotia at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center in Amherst, NS on September 11, 2026.
Born in Botwood, Newfoundland, Malcolm spent much of his early life moving from community to community as the son of the late Rev. Aubrey Tizzard, an esteemed minister whose work took the family to many places across eastern Canada. In 1968, the Tizzard family relocated to Oxford, Nova Scotia, where Malcolm met his future wife of 53 years, Coreen.
With over 45 years as a respected real estate appraiser, Malcolm was a widely known and trusted professional throughout the region. He knew every highway, back road, and house in Cumberland County. His knowledge of the area, its properties, and its people was remarkable, and his warm, friendly nature made him a familiar and much-loved face wherever he went.
While Malcolm took great pride in his work, his greatest joys were found in the simpler side of life. Beyond achieving a black-belt in karate at age 54, he loved spending time and exploring in the woods, on trails, and on the river. His skills of meticulously stacking firewood was a point of pride - and an art form that did not go unnoticed by many. He also took great satisfaction in accumulating more than 650,000 kilometers on more than one Toyota Tacoma.
Malcolm is survived by his wife, Coreen (Payne) Tizzard; his daughters, Lori (Geoff) Gay, Heather Tizzard (John Lingner), and Amy Tizzard; his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Micah, Nathan, Ian, Cara, Maria, and Isaac; his brother, Michael (Mary) Tizzard; brothers-in-law Garry (Laurie) Payne, John (Brenda) Payne, Robert Beaumont; sisters in-law Janet Tizzard, Debby Tizzard; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his two beloved grand-dogs, Penny and Indy, who held a very special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Aubrey and Rowena (Watkins) Tizzard; his brothers, Roger Tizzard and Garry Tizzard; sister, Elizabeth (John) Walsh; father- and mother-in-law Clarence and Willena (Seaman) Payne; sister-in-law, Patty Beaumont; and nephews, Jesse Payne and Dallas Walsh.
Malcolm was a man who was widely known, deeply loved, and impossible to replace. His stories, knowledge, humour, kindness and unmistakable presence will be missed by so many.
Visitation will be from 1-3 pm, with funeral service at 3 pm, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. Donations in Malcolm's memory may be made to the Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
