Leon
Webb
Mar 14, 1937 — Aug 4, 2024
Westchester
Leon Everett Webb – 87, Westchester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4th 2024 at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in North Greenville, Cumberland County, to the late Earle and Margaret (Moore) Webb.
Leon spent most of his young life in Westchester. Early in his married life, Leon with his wife Laverne operated the Cumming store in Westchester for several years. He spent 25 years as an asphalt inspector for Jacques Whitford Inc. Dartmouth. This being a seasonal job left lots of time for other labour pursuits such as logging, running lines in the blueberry fields, trimming the Christmas trees and of course making maple syrup in the sugar shack. Always a Bluegrass fan, Leon and Laverne enjoyed attending Bluegrass festivals and hosting musical kitchen parties full of friends and family from near and far. Leon loved baseball and played on several teams during his life, both as a player and later as a coach leading the Wolvies to multiple league championships. Winter brought hockey where Leon with a little help from friends built and maintained an outdoor hockey rink for the Village. Leon was a story teller, an antique hunter and a crokinole master. He had a sparkle in his eye whenever he talked about his family and especially his great-grandchildren.
Leon is survived by his sons, Randy (Georgina Funge); Chris (Jackie); Jeff and Darren; sibling, Eileen Brown; grandchildren, Dawn (Devin DeBay); Craig (Morgan); Courtney Webb; Michael (Trisha Davidson); Adrian Webb and Megan Webb; along with 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Laverne (Cumming); brothers, Garnet Webb, Carman Webb and Vaughan Webb; sisters, Margaret Rushton and Joyce Langille; infant son, Dwayne.
A celebration of life visitation for Leon and Laverne will be held from 2-4 pm on Thursday, August 8, in the Westchester Fire Hall, 123 Valley Rd, Westchester Station. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at East Cumberland Lodge for the wonderful care they gave Leon while he was a resident there. Donations in Leon and Laverne's memory may be made to the Eagle Hill Cemetery, Westchester.
