Larry Patriquin, 82, passed away on August 17th, 2026. Larry was the first born child to Austin and Doris Patriquin in West Wentworth. He grew up on his parent’s farm and woodland which at one time included cattle, pigs and horses. A born worker, Larry’s fondest childhood memories always involved holding a shovel or axe and working alongside his grandfather. At 17 he left his parent's home and moved to Halifax with the love of his life Carolyn. His first city job was at General Electric where without any prior experience he managed to convince them that he knew what he was doing, and eventually became a supervisor. After GE he got into car sales and again became manager, he was also auto parts manager for Mack Trucks. He loved sales as he loved talking to people and started his own business selling parts for transport trucks. Larry and Carolyn raised their son Robbie in Lower Sackville and then later found another son, Steven. Larry lived life his way, making it up on the go as he built a wonderful life for his family, providing homes for his in-laws and supporting other family members.

Larry’s mind always belonged to the Greenville Road. He wanted to be there every weekend, especially in the fall, his favourite season. When he was younger visiting “the camp” he loved to have fun with snowmobiles, singing while playing guitar, and he was a great outdoorsman. After over 30 years in “the city,” Larry and Carolyn came back home to Wentworth where they continued to raise Steve, and lived their dream of having a simple life. Larry was a true fan of country music both old and new. He took great pride performing with his family in the Cumberland Singers where all remaining and past members held a special place in his heart. He was proud to be Patriquin.

When his wife Carolyn fell ill, he cared for her at home for over 4 years and considered it to be one of his greatest accomplishments. Larry treated everybody the same and didn’t see the differences that many are blinded by. He would strike up a conversation with anyone that could last hours. Larry absolutely fell in love with nature, wildlife and was a true conservationist. Being in the woods and working as hard as possible brought him peace and a way for him to honour his father, Austin, who he revered. At 82 years old, only a couple of months ago, Larry was proudly running his chainsaw in his forest.

He learned about his fate only a couple of months ago but never lost his positive attitude. He remained at home with Steve and was always looking for some work to do. Larry was strong in life, and when he was facing his end he put on an even greater show of strength that has left a lasting impression.

Larry was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Carolyn, his son Robbie, parents Austin and Doris, his sister Karen, his step-mother Claire, his beloved in-laws Ivan, Marjorie and Gary Ralston, and many other family members and friends who he missed dearly.

He is survived by his son Steven Simpson, granddaughter Cassidy Durston, sisters Marion (Wes), Brenda (Carmen), Bonnie, Arlene, and Dawn (Ken).

He insisted on no end of life services at all; he was never scared to do things his own way. After many discussions, much consideration, and a very heavy heart, it has been decided that his final wishes will be respected in full. He definitely didn’t want you to see him like this.

His remains will be spread along with Carolyn’s in the places they held dear, and then their remains will be placed together at Wentworth Cemetery. Condolences can be sent to the funeral home. All calls will be answered and Steve will be checking the email address stevensimpson@protonmail.com if you would like to get in touch further. Any and all will be accepted at our family home.
