Kathy
Ryan
Sep 7, 1950 — Feb 10, 2025
Tatamagouche
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Kathy Ryan, Tatamagouche, NS. Kathy passed away at the Colchester East Hants Health Care Centre in Truro on February 10, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Dan and Pat Pretty.
Born in Radcliffe, Lancashire England, Kathy immigrated to Canada in 1957, along with her parents and her brother David.
Cape John had a special place in Kathy's heart. Her brother, David, would drive her to their cottage every week during the summer months to relax and enjoy the views and visit with other cottagers. She really enjoyed times at the cottage when all the family was there having a barbecue. When Kathy's health started failing, she still found the energy to pack her bags and go to the cottage. Kathy was an avid reader. She wasn't happy unless she had a book or two on standby, ready and waiting when she finished her present book. Her mind was as sharp as a tack, right to the very end. She was also a big fan of the Montreal Canadians, the Blue Jays and Coronation Street. Anyone that knew Kathy understood you didn't phone her while the sports/show was on the tube. Your call would not be answered!
Kathy had a teaching career that started in Digby many years ago. She had teaching positions at various schools after Digby but made "Options" in Halifax her last stop. Kathy got satisfaction talking with her previous students and learning that they had found meaningful employment.
The Family would like to thank all the wonderful people in Tatamagouche that drove Kathy around on her errands and to the people that helped her out with chores in her apartment. Kathy was very grateful for the help. Some friends and family fondly remember the trip Kathy and a friend made to Baltimore to take in a Traffic (a band) concert. Shortly after that trip, Kathy gave up driving. The residents of Nova Scotia have no idea what a contribution Kathy had made to road safety with that decision.
Kathy will be missed by her brother David (Lesley), nieces Melissa (Jody), Caroline (Lorne), Ellen (Mark) and Olivia (Matthew) and their children Lauren (Louis), Bianca, Makayla, Alana, Emma and James. She was predeceased by her parents, Dan and Pat Pretty.
It was Kathy's wish to donate her body to Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. There will be no service at this time. Online condolences can be made at Coulter's Funeral Home.
