Gerald "Jerry" Bernard Rector - Oxford Junction, passed away peacefully the morning of February 7, 2021, at QEII in Halifax. Born in Springhill, on January 31, 1941, he was the eldest son of the late Headley and Edith (Moore) Rector. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his wife, Fern; sons, Ian (Jo-Anne), Halifax; Jason, Oxford; grandchildren, Noah, Kyle, Michael, Liam and Serena; sisters, Millie (Harold) Stone and Mona Bailey; brothers, Craig (Linda) and Danny (Holly); brother-in-law, Gordon Blair; sisters-in-law, Helen (Jean-Claude) Desgranges; Aline Brousseau; Jhislaine (Andre) Dozoes; brother-in-law, Patrick (Nicole) Murphy; many nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Headley and Edith; sisters, Barb (Charlie) Perrin and Glenda Blair. During his young adult years, Jerry moved to Montreal for work and met his future wife, Fernand "Fern" Murphy. On June 27, 1970 they were married in front of their friends and family. Their union lovingly produced his two boys, Ian and Jason. Jerry worked very hard all of his life, at Gordon's Greenhouses, and Tiger Timber, where he retired in 2003. His love of gardening brought him back to the greenhouses for a retirement job. Jerry could be found on the golf course all summer and in the bowling alley all winter; he enjoyed going to music shows with Fern and playing a good game of cards. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, with a service of remembrance at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, both in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford, Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation in Jerry's memory. The song may have ended, but the melody will live on in our hearts forever.
