Obituary

Jeffrey Hayden Swan

October 12, 1967 – December 1, 2021 (54)

We have lost a pivotal member of our family after a long, yet very short, battle with cancer.  Jeffrey was predeceased by his loving parents, Freeman Roach Swan and Mary Elizabeth of Central New Annan.  Jeff is survived by his brother, Arthur (Miriam) and many fabulous cousins, their children, and aunts and uncles, and friends.  He cherished each, and every one of you, more than you will imagine. Your visits, calls, texts and cards (sometimes weekly) brought such joy to Jeff and a reminder of how special he was to all of his family and friends.  Jeff is also survived by a very special person who recently came into his life.  He made Jeff very happy, incredibly hopeful, and very, very proud and content.   His beloved son, Owain Reid.  Jeff worked at many jobs. After high school he attended Truro Vocational School taking a two-year Electrician Course.   He worked at Seagull Pewter and in various construction jobs.  After completing a truck driving course in Masstown, he was very fortunate to be employed (taken in) by Glenn Aitchison and his lovely wife Kay.  He worked for them for six rewarding years ( 'haulin' wood).  We will forever be grateful for their support then, and in his final days.  Jeff decided, for several reasons, to "head west" to Alberta where he hauled more wood, and then became a heavy equipment and wash plant operator.  He was employed with Knelsen Rock Products and Reimer Foundations.  Jeff made many friends on his journey out west and spoke fondly of them all.  There was certainly a special bond with his friends from "the Rock".  Jeff loved motorcycling, snowmobile rides, and exploring the trails and visiting the castle in the mountain above our home.  He spent his New Annan time playing drums and jamming with his friends.   He was a die-hard sports fan and loved hockey.  Jeff never put himself first.  His greatest concern was making sure everyone was ok.  He loved all his friends and would always answer their "how are you question" with an instant, "I'm fine, how are you?  Throughout his brief journey, Jeff met a very valuable "team". His cancer care and navigation team included Doctors, Nurses, Surgeons, and support that we will forever be grateful for.  A special thank you goes to Dr. Bush for the care, compassion and dignity that you provided to Jeff throughout.  The nursing staff and support at Lillian Fraser Hospital was beyond compare.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you have done for Jeff and for his family.  For everyone that helped, visited and assisted this Summer and Fall, we are indebted.  A very special thank you to David Sutherland, the other "big brother".   We are thankful that you were such a guiding influence for Jeff.  The support and the comfort you brought to him, and us, were beyond our imagination.  We could not have done it without you.  We will be forever grateful for the relationship you and Jeff had and for the unending support and friendship you gave to him.  To the Saturday night "limo chicks", your visit was perfect.  The timing could NOT have been better.  The joy and excitement were evident in his face.  Cara and Kathy, we thank you SO much for the happiness you brought to him after a very emotional day.  The two of you have been so supportive and comforting throughout this journey!   Our gratitude!  Thank you all for knowing and loving Jeff (aka "Jeff Faa faa" and "tee hee").  An undivided , celebratory tribute and interment will take place at a later date.  Please take a moment and sign Jeff's guestbook online and if you would like to make a memorial donation, Jeff asked that they be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Red Cross.
