James Roy
Morrison
Jul 2, 1923 — Oct 25, 2024
Truro / Gulf Shore / Pictou
James (Roy) Morrison, age 101, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Veteran's Unit of Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital in Pictou, NS, with his son, Jim and daughter, Debra by his side.
Born in Greenfield NS to the late Aubrey and Stella Morrison, he was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Natalie (Cox), brothers Ron, Eugene and sisters, Blanche and Hilda, his sons, Glen (Beaver), Eric, and his grandson (Mark). Left to mourn his passing are his son, Jim (Anne) and daughter, Debra (late Jim Scammell), many nieces and nephews and his beautiful grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Roy was a retired warrant officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a tail gunner on an Avro Lancaster Bomber he successfully flew over 30 missions from November 1944 and March 1945 between England and Germany. He was inducted into the Lancaster Living Legends project at the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum in 2017. He gratefully received a "Quilt of Valour" in 2021.
Following his retirement from the Armed Forces, Roy worked for Wilson's Fuels and also taught at Truro Vocational School.
Roy and his wife (Sis) spent many winters in Florida golfing and playing tennis. Roy spent many cherished summers on the Gulf Shore in Pugwash, where his neighbors became family. Roy loved gardening, and was a great cook. He made the best yellow "hellish" relish and shortbread cookies, both which he loved to share.
Roy was a humble, kind and patient man who loved his family and everyone who came into his life. He adored his friends at Munroe Court and enjoyed the entertainment there.
The family wishes to thank all the caregivers and people who took time to show their love and compassion for Roy. He was truly loved. He carried his sharp wit and bright mind right until the end.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle's Funeral Home in Pugwash. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Fly high in your Lancaster Roy. This is your last mission. God speed.
