He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Carrie (Betty) (MacNeill) Latta; daughter Margaret (Latta) Langille; brothers Clarence, Sanford (Sandy), Raymond, Gesner, Ross, and George; sisters Louella Roberts, Ola Ross, and Jean McKenzie. He attended the then state of the art Margaret King School in Pugwash Junction.  Weldon and his family moved to Malagash in 1933.  He was hired at the Malagash Salt Mine at the age of 17 and would continue to work for the Windsor Salt Company for 46 years before retirement. Weldon's only time away from the mine was his enlistment and training in the Canadian Army.  He was in Aldershot as a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders waiting for deployment when peace was declared. Weldon married Carrie (Betty) MacNeill and together they raised five children.  They moved to Wallace Bay in 1956.  Weldon was a founding member of the Malagash Royal Canadian Legion and was always community minded.  He and his wife, Betty, ordered, purchased, and packed candy at their home for many years for the Salt Mine Christmas Santa and raised money each year for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Weldon was honoured with many special awards including the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Century of Service Award.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, camping, and a good feed of lobsters. He was known for his quick wit, his ability to fix or modify anything that was in need of repair, his common sense, and his kindness and acceptance of others. Weldon continued to live in his home in Wallace Bay with his favorite cat, Tiger, until the time of his death. A special thank you is extended to his VON nurses, his healthcare workers, and the staff at O'Brien's Pharmacy who all went above and beyond in their care of Weldon.  He believed that the excellent care he received from these healthcare workers allowed him to remain in his own home until his passing.  Visitation will be Thursday, March 9 th , from 7-9 PM, a Celebration of Life will be held March 10 th at 2 PM with a reception immediately following the service, all held at Mundle's Funeral Home. Donations in Weldon's memory may be made to the Malagash Legion Branch #97, the Miners' Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
