Obituary

Gordon, J. David – 77, Halifax, formerly of Wentworth, Truro, Halifax, Digby, and Oxford, died April 1, 2025 at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born on January 25, 1948 in Springhill NS he was a son of the late Kenneth and Annie (Stewart) Gordon. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Heath) Moore, Halifax; son, Graeme, Lequille NS; brother, Gay, Oxford; and 4 grandchildren, Charlie and Brandon Moore, Hailey and Ruby Gordon. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Janice A. Gordon (Black); daughter, Amy Rebecca; sisters, Edith Reynolds and Bessie Brookins; brothers Gary and Keith.

David attended grade school in his hometown of Oxford. He was an excellent student and competed for highest marks against his high school sweetheart, Janice, whom he married in August 1970. In his youth, his favourite aunt, Nell, told him he should be a doctor and so that is what he did. He attended Dalhousie University for his undergraduate degree in science and later graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1974. Over the next 10 years David practiced family medicine in Digby, Oxford and Halifax. In 1984 he was certified in radiology and practiced as a radiologist at the Halifax Infirmary until 1992. David, Janice, and their 3 children then moved to Truro where David worked as a radiologist at Colchester Regional Hospital until he retired in 2011. He and Janice then moved to their oasis on Mattatall Lake in Wentworth. After losing Janice in 2016, David returned to Halifax to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.

Although he devoted nearly 40 years to medicine, David's true passion was nature. He loved nature and used it as a canvas to create beauty through gardening and landscaping. Being surrounded by flowers in the family greenhouses as a youth surely sparked this interest. He also loved animals, especially dogs, and couldn't pass by one on the street without a smile or pat on the head. David's other interests included travel, opera, woodworking, reading, good wine and, of course, ice cream.
