It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Helen Christina Reno (Irving) age 92 on August 13, 2023 at East Cumberland Lodge Pugwash. Born on March 6,1931 to Marguerite and Fred Irving of the Gulf Shore. After graduating high school Helen ventured to Halifax, where she trained to be a nurse at the Old Children's Hospital. Upon graduating she went on to work for the Red Cross for a short time, before returning to the Children's to work as an Operating Room Nurse till her marriage to Ed Reno in June 1967. Once settled in, she did the odd shift at North Cumberland Hospital, assisted Irving Mundle in numerous ambulance runs to Halifax, and over the years continued to work alongside Ed in Reno's store until their retirement. When not working in the store Helen could be found upstairs baking biscuits, making pickles and jams, cakes, pies, and other sweet treats, and sharing them with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, golfing, gardening and knitting mittens, hats and scarves. She was a lifelong member of Westley St. Matthew's United Church, UCW, and sang in the choir. Helen is survived by daughter Joan Lavers, Bedford; sister, Marion Rantin (Ford) Ajax, Ontario; sister-in-law, Leona Irving, Bradford, Ontario; granddaughter, Amanda (Matt) Sackville; grandson, Michael (Shawna) Tantallon; great granddaughters, Olivia and Ada, great grandson, Cooper; many nieces and nephews.
