Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hal Gordon Trueman, who left this world too soon on May 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Hal was born on October 13, 1957, in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, to loving parents Gordon and Judith Trueman. Hal's life was a testament to the power of compassion and kindness. He was known for his unwavering dedication to helping others, always ready to lend a hand or offer a listening ear. His warm smile and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone he encountered, making the world a better place through his simple acts of love and kindness. For four decades, Hal devoted his professional life to MacKay's Truck and Trailer, where he worked since 1982, finally retiring in late 2022. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and friends. Conversations with Hal were filled with laughter, wisdom, and warmth, and he cherished every moment spent in the company of loved ones. Hal's passion for life extended beyond his work and family. He found immense joy in exploring the beautiful landscapes of Nova Scotia, often riding snowmobiles and ATVs across the terrain he loved so dearly. His adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors were infectious, inspiring those around him to appreciate the beauty of nature. In the later years of his life, he took great pride in cultivating his own blueberry fields, a venture that reflected his love for the land and his passion for nurturing growth, both in nature and in the lives of his family.

He is predeceased by his beloved parents, Gordon and Judith (Chapman) Trueman, and his dear sister, Sherry Trueman. Hal is survived by his cherished wife, Marg Trueman (Cameron), who stood by his side through thick and thin. He was a devoted father to his three children: John Trueman (Brittany Veno), Crystal Trueman (Bob Weldon), and Michael Trueman. Hal greatly embraced his role as a loving stepfather to Brittany Latta-Roode (Brandon Roode) and Melody Latta, forging deep bonds of love and support within his blended family. Hal also embraced Lyle White, who though not his biological son, became a cherished part of his family.

Hal was proud of his role as a grandfather to his grandchildren: Jayden, Anthony, Madi Trueman, Damion and Rayden Weldon, Keegan and Kayden MacAulay. His legacy of love will live on through them, as they carry forward the lessons of kindness, joy, and resilience he instilled in them.

Hal is also survived by his brothers, Dale and Scott Trueman, and his sister, Shelley Trueman Whidden, numerous nieces and nephews, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. As we remember Hal, we honour the incredible man he was - a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to helping others. While he may no longer be with us, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us as we navigate life without his physical presence. In the words of Hal, "Always keep smiling," or "smile and nod" a motto that he truly he lived by.

Hal's family will receive friends on Friday, June 6 from 6-9 pm in Coulter's Funeral Home, 48 Riverside Dr., Tatamagouche. A Graveside Committal Service will be held Saturday, June 7 at 11 am in Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery, with Reverend Connie McNamara officiating. You may bring a lawnchair for your own comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

"Rest peacefully, Hal Gordon Trueman. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered!"
