Lewis
Jan 5, 1937 — Jul 12, 2026
Tatamagouche
Gertrude Elizabeth Lewis "Gertie" – 89, of Tatamagouche, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Born in Bayhead, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Leta F. (Millett) Langille.
Gertie was well known in the area for her cooking. She worked for many years as a cook at Bible camps, as well as for a time in a restaurant. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, which provided her the opportunity to perfect her baking skills. Her cinnamon buns, biscuits, and blueberry pies became family favourites. Her home was a welcoming place where the tea kettle was always on for anyone who dropped in for a visit. In her earlier years, she and her husband enjoyed attending old-time music events, dances, and gathering with neighbours and friends at local house parties.
Gertie is survived by her children, Sylvia Murphy, Elizabeth Tattrie (Robert), Ethel Lewis, Derek Lewis, and Nicole Watson (Greg); brothers and sisters, Austin Langille, Doreen Tattrie (Barry), Judy Hennessey (Frank), Richard Langille (Sylvia), and Calvin Langille (Gloria); grandchildren, Lisa Redmond (Terry), Julie Cole (Terry), Randy Tattrie (Holly), Ashley Laurie, Raomi Weaver (Warren), Holly Lewis, Justin MacKay (Chelsey), Sophie Lewis, Emma Lewis, Ethan Watson and Abbie Watson; as well as great grandchildren, Skye, (James), Ashley (Mike), Bryanna (Kyle), Braycen, Porter, June, Lydia, Jacob and Cali; several great-great-grandchildren; daughter in law, Nancy Lewis and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Darrell Lewis; sons, Brian and Raymond; brother, Ernie; sister, Eileen Mingo; brothers-in-law, Floyd Mingo and Boyd Tattrie; and son-in-law, Edgar Murphy.
Gertie is resting in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche, and by her request, there will be no visitation. A Graveside Service will be held in her memory on Friday, July 17, at 11:00 a.m. in Sunny Brae Cemetery, River Road, Oliver with Pastor Larry Tattrie officiating.
Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Gertie's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
