Francis Byron
Jamieson
May 27, 1953 — Mar 15, 2024
North Wallace
F. Byron Jamieson - age 70 of North Wallace, passed peacefully on Friday March 15 2024 at the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital surrounded by his wife and girls.
Born in Pugwash on May 27th 1953, and raised in North Wallace he was the son of the late Earl and Phyllis (MacInnis) Jamieson. To celebrate his 24th birthday, he married our Mom. Together they built a life, farm, and family on a foundation of love that we remain proud of. In his final few months, he worked to be sure everything was in order to lessen the burden for us after his passing. Finding the words to honour him now is made easier knowing what it was he wanted to say.
Dad worked first at Mundle's Dairy Farm. Time and talent soon allowed him to build a farm of his own. He began with standardbred horses, a passion that had started within his family growing up. He moved on to become a Scotsburn cream producer, during which time he was President of the Cream Association for Cumberland and Colchester North. After selling the cream quota he raised beef cattle, and finally the big red barn became a home for Mom and Mandy to honor his love of all animals.
He spent Saturdays as a young boy aboard the lobster boat with his father. He valued the time he fished alongside Grampie and in 1992 he took the wheel of the Phylis J on his own. He shared his love of lobster fishing and life on the water with his oldest daughter "Jenny" when she began fishing with him in 2005. His boat was well used during summer months as he happily welcomed anyone aboard for a mackerel trip. He served as President of the Harbour Authority in Wallace for many years and wharf manager in 2022. His experience as a fisherman made him the perfect fit to be a lobster buyer in later years and he enjoyed trips to the Bay of Fundy and Lunenburg to pick up lobster during his retirement.
When fishing slowed and the oil fields were booming he decided to go West. He enjoyed travelling and often spoke about his winters in Northern Alberta, including an unscheduled trip in a company truck that allowed him to set foot in the Arctic Circle. Work, and a sense for learning and adventure, gave him the opportunity to see every Canadian province.
Later in life Dad was introduced to Paul Gray of Grayland Farms on the Gulf Shore. There, he embraced the chance to stay involved in the standardbred racing industry he'd loved so much as a young man. His greatest professional enjoyment came in working with horses. He spent many Sundays at the track in Truro and family vacations often involved an annual trip to the Island for the Gold Cup and Saucer race.
Dad was always someone to get involved, but no other volunteer organization was more important to him than the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department. He was proud to have been a fireman for more than 35 years and valued the relationships he made at the fire hall along the way, most notably, his friendship with Tom Flynn.
He cherished memories of North Wallace, the racetrack and his family from his youth. He was a skilled broom ball player and still proudly displays a trophy from a 1983 game as a Pugwash Brewer.
Dad's greatest love was for his wife and daughters. He admired Mom's resilience and ability to rise to any challenge they were given. For all the positions he held in life, those of a husband and father were most important. He excelled at both, and enjoyed time with each of his four-legged grandchildren. His sweet tooth was always satisfied by Melissa's homemade baking, a skill she no doubt mastered in the mud pie bakery he built for us when we were kids. He had a firm belief in right and wrong, hands made hard from a lifetime of work and a heart that was softened by the love and pride he had for his three girls. The lessons he taught and the memories he left, will comfort us in the years we'll spend without him.
Dad accepted his illness as a part of life. He was filled with only gratitude for the care that we were able to provide him at home. It was an honour for which we will always be grateful. Thank you to the nurses at the Pugwash hospital for continuing that care and treating Dad with dignity, respect and a few one liners that he was quick to return. To Martha and Dr. Brian MacFarlane, your guidance and compassion made you our Dream Team and your kindness will never be forgotten.
He is already missed by his loving wife of nearly 47 years Patty (Trenholm), his girls: Jennifer (Emmerson Chase); Pugwash River, Melissa; Waterloo Ontario, Mandy; North Wallace and his favourite little dog Penny. His sisters: Gloria Harper; North Wallace, Norma Jamieson (Dave MacCallum); Onslow Mountain, Louise Jamieson (Bill Bannon); North Wallace and Tracey Pye; Fox Harbour, twin brother Bruce Jamieson; North Wallace, with whom he had a very special bond, brother in law Steven (Pearl) Trenholm; Malagash along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ivory and Isabel Trenholm, sister-in-law Roena Jamieson, and brothers in law John Harper and Chris Pye.
