Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Francis Aubrey Delorey, in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, at the age of 91.

Francis (Frank) was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Audrey (nee MacKay) and his son, David. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Brian (wife Shelley) and daughter Lea Anne Watt (husband Rob); his grandchildren Chanel, Jeff (wife Kailey), Greg, Nicole, Jack and Caroline; and his great-granddaughter Millie.

Francis was a dedicated Nova Scotian who was deeply proud of his roots and his family. He was one of eight children born in Tracadie, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by Gerald (Marie) and Edna (John), survived by John (Leslie deceased), Donald (Margaret), Angela (David), Ronald (Anne) and Helene (Russell), and many nieces and nephews.

Family was at the heart of Francis’s life. He took great pride and joy in following the lives of his children and grandchildren and was an enthusiastic and active presence at their activities and sporting events. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments. He enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with his siblings, their spouses, and his many nieces and nephews. Their home in Pugwash had an open door policy for all and he cherished each visitor.

Francis had many passions throughout his life, including his love of Nova Scotia, cars, golf, and seafood. He played and coached hockey remaining a devoted hockey fan, with a particular admiration for Sidney Crosby. He was also a skilled baseball player and kept in touch with his former Bedford teammates. He had the team crest in his side drawer to this day.

In addition to the many friends he kept touch with from Nova Scotia, his working and retirement years saw his circle of friends grow across Canada and beyond.

He was known for his warm smile, how to “properly” eat a lobster, his welcoming nature and his wonderful sense of humour. Francis loved to tell a good joke and had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome. His kindness, humour, positive attitude and genuine interest in others will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His goal quite simple, have the respect of his family and his community. He accomplished this without demand, he earned it.

Above all, Francis was a man of strong faith. His devotion to his faith was an important part of his life and guided him throughout his many years.

Francis leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him dearly. Living each day to the fullest with humility and appreciation for the chance. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched, including Shirley Thorpe with whom he spent many happy days over the last few years.

Forever in our hearts.
