Gilroy, Ethel Barden - 89, Wentworth, passed away July 6, 2022 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Wentworth, she was the daughter of the late Melbourne L. and Frances (Gard) Teed. Ethel was raised in Wentworth, where she helped operate M.L. Teed General Store with her parents. She and her husband, Doug, continued operating the store as D.W. Gilroy General Store for 35 years, retiring in Wentworth. Ethel was very community minded and volunteered for several groups. She received the Volunteer of the Year Award for the Municipality of Cumberland in 2013. Ethel attended Wentworth United Church and was a member of Wentworth UCW. She is survived by her cousin, Shirley (Doug) MacDiarmid, Wentworth; extended family and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug. Special thank you to the many caregivers and friends for their excellent care and concern for Ethel during her illness. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford, followed by a reception. Interment will follow in Upper Wentworth Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Foundation.
