Jones
Aug 1, 1934 — Oct 19, 2022
Amherst
Elizabeth "Betty" Jones - 88, Amherst and formerly of Oxford. It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Jones on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, August 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Redmond) Brabazon. Betty's adventurous spirit led her to immigrate to Canada, arriving in Toronto in 1955. She worked for the Canada Life Assurance Company where she met her future husband, Jack Jones. Betty and Jack were married in Hampton, New Brunswick in 1956. Betty dedicated her life to raising and making a home for her family. She was an extremely talented knitter and accomplished fiber artist. Betty turned her talents into a small business she called the "White Birches Wool Shop" from her home in Oxford and was a regular participant in a number of local craft fairs for many years. Upon retirement Betty and Jack enjoyed many trips to different parts of the world. She often spoke fondly of these places and the time they shared there. Betty is survived by daughter, Karen (James) Hume, Denver, Colorado; sons, Peter (Leslie), Petite Riviere, Paul (Kelly) Oxford; Michael (Kelly), Kentville; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren (who knew her as "Grandma Betty") and sister, Irene Snow and family of Glace Bay. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Jack and a daughter lost at birth. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. Her family will gather for a celebration of Betty's life at a later date. The family extends thanks to the staff at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, All Saints Springhill Hospital and the Gables Lodge, Amherst for the care and kindness they provided Betty in the past year.
