Eileen
Murphy
Mar 15, 1932 — May 17, 2021
Victoria
Murphy, E. Eileen - 89, Victoria, Cumberland County, passed away at home on Monday, May 17th, 2021. Born in Victoria, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Edna (Mosher) Murphy and raised by her uncle and aunt, Dave and Evelyn (Ryan) Murphy. Eileen lived in Halifax until she was 14 and spent summers on the farm in Victoria, where she moved and finished schooling.
She was trained at the Halifax Infirmary, where she became an RN and a dedicated nurse. After her training, Eileen worked at Indian Brook Reserve, the hospital in Parrsboro for several years, and All Saints Hospital in Springhill for 30 years. She retired to work on the farm, loved the outdoors, enjoyed horseback riding and driving the old Massey tractor.
The Montreal Canadians will find it hard to find a more devoted fan than Eileen. She was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays.
Eileen attended St. Cornelius Church, was past president of the Parish Council and also St. Cornelius Cemetery Company. She was past president of Oxford Curling Club. In more recent years, she was a member of OPH Club. Eileen loved music and was involved in the ukulele group Golden Strummers. She loved shuffleboard and, even with failing eyesight, she participated and enjoyed it immensely.
A quiet, wise, fun loving soul who loved her life in all the capacities she filled over her years, never to complain as she filled these roles and they had their challenges by times. Her friends and family looked up to her and will miss her dearly.
She will be sadly missed by forever friend and companion of 49 years, Sharon Broughton. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Alfred; sisters, Mary McCully and Barbara Gordon. Cremation has taken place in the care of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Oxford. A graveside service will take place in St. Cornelius Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to St. Cornelius Cemetery Company, VON or charity of choice.
