Tatamagouche
Edie's obituary as written in her own words...
I was born on July 19, 1941 in Millbrook - Tatamagouche. Being the youngest of eight children born to Charlie and Ivan (Taylor) Forbes. I was loved and spoiled by my dad, learned the love of life and was taught the value of respect and love of people and the earth at an early age and have always been so grateful for it.
I was predeceased by my mom and dad many years ago but am so fortunate for having had my dear parents for over forty years as many people have not been so lucky. I lost my brothers, Howard, Murray, George and Eldon and my sisters, Sarah Jane (Sadie), Ruth, and baby Elizabeth.
I met my husband, Fabian in Goose Bay, Labrador. We married in Pugwash 1969. James Darin was born in March 1970 and his brother Charles Derek followed 4 years later. We had Fabian with us until November of 1981 at which time at the early age of 36 he took his own life and I must always be grateful for the years we had together. I have always been so grateful to all those friends and family that helped us through those very difficult years...the good times and the bad. Reverend Father Donavan, Parish Priest in Enfield supported us - bless him.
I worked for the Royal Bank for over 30 years and one year for the Bank of Montreal while we lived in Leaf Rapids, Manitoba. I have worked in many different places with the bank starting in Weston, Ontario, transferring to the west then to Montréal and then to Goose Bay, Labrador. Back to Halifax where I retired in 1990. I enjoyed my banking years and made so many valuable friends. Many of whom I keep in touch with. Friends have always been very important to me. Mary, Norma Jean, Peggy and Teresa. To my favourite nephew Murray, our talks meant so much to me. Thank you for the laughs.
I wish our son Darin, his wife Donna and my dear grandsons Deizel, aka the Judge and Dakota all the best in your lives. Darin you've done wonderful - keep up the good work. Derek you have helped me so much. Keep looking forward. I loved you both so much and share my love 50/50.
I joined the Freedom Rebekah Lodge #62 in Tatamagouche in 1992 and have enjoyed my years and have shared my life with members and friends.
My brother, Eldon and I have walked many miles together and shared many years of love for one another. He is not only a brother but my most valuable and precious friend.
I give so much thanks to the twelve steps programs. Lois and Bill W. changed many lives - mine included. What a second chance at life, especially with the Tatamagouche Sunrise Trail Group and the Wentworth Group. The Al-Anon group in Enfield helped to start me on my road to recovery. One day at a time.
My body will be donated to Dalhousie for Medical Research and then I will be buried beside my husband at a later date in the Bell Gift Cemetery.
I don't want anyone to be sad and no flowers please. Just take a few blades of grass and think of a job well done. Then just reach to the person next to you and give them a 'hug'.
I am now ready to go. I am now 'free.' What a privilege and pleasure to be able to write and 'read' my own obituary.
