Newman, Diane Elizabeth - 83, of Amherst, passed away on April 26th, 2024. A coal miner's daughter, born and raised in Springhill, the eldest daughter of the late Leo and Evelyn (Newcombe) Thompson. Diane enjoyed writing her column, The Dijest in The Springhill Record and her role in the Red Hat Society. She self published a book entitled Poems from the Heart. Her favourite place on earth was Heather Beach, where she and Fred enjoyed visits from friends and family at their cottage. She is survived by children Daniel, Douglas, Patricia and Richard; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Faye, Valerie, Josie, Dora, Gladys and Cindy; brother, Leo; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Frederick; sister, Denise; brothers, Eddie and Donny. V isitation will be from 1-2 pm Saturday, July 6, followed immediately by funeral service at 2 pm, both in MacDiarmid's Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Oxford, NS . Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada.
