It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Murray Williams , 72, of Pugwash Junction. David passed away peacefully on December 8th at his beloved farmstead, surrounded by his loving wife and two daughters.
Born June 3, 1953, to Sherman and Violet Williams, David grew up in Pugwash Junction, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for family. Over the course of his life, he held many jobs and roles, and a "jack of all trades" - butcher, carpenter, fisherman, woodsman, farmer - and certainly many more that he never took credit for. Above all, he was a cowboy, a farmer, and a shepherd at heart.
David was a true pillar of strength for his family - a loving husband to Gail and a devoted father and grandfather, always ready with guidance, support, and unconditional love.
David's legacy is rooted in his passion for animals, nature, creativity, and resilience. He was incredibly proud of his farm and could often be found working away outdoors, with a feather in his cap. He was a natural creator and problem-solver, always having fun by using his craftsmanship and silliness to build his own horse sleds, hay wrappers, recliners on skis for coasting, and crafting sailing ice sleds. He was the first to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and anyone in need. He enjoyed horseback riding, curling, sledding and also treasured his role as a mentor, especially in the time he spent caring for his grandchildren - his "little peanut," Ryann, and his farm hand, Allison, following close behind.
He is predeceased by his parents, Sherman and Violet Williams; his son, Matthew Williams; brothers, Sherman and Elvin Williams; and sister, Lorna MacKenzie.
David will be forever missed by his loving wife, Gail Williams; daughters, Rebekah Williams and Laura (Nick) Williams; stepdaughters, Tena (Justin) Simons and Dawn (Mike) Elliott; and his adopted son, Jason (Jolene) Melanson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryann, Allison, Kyle, Aaron, and Lindy; his siblings, Patricia (Jack) Briggins, Billy Williams, Gordon (Faye) Williams, Gloria Merlin, Gene Williams, Mary (Larry) Oja, Benjamin (Gwen) Williams, Andrew (Irene) Williams, and Susan (Larry) Rushton; as well as many nieces and nephews; his longtime friend, George Gillis; and dear friends, Lloyd Brown and John Vanderwiel.
Special thanks to Dr. Rowe, Dr. Short, and Martha Ferguson for her beautiful compassion, care and support for David and his family.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, December 13th at Mundle's Funeral Home, 10235 Durham Street, Pugwash. Interment to follow at Eaton Cemetery, Pugwash Junction. Donations can be made to the Cumberland County Hospice Palliative Care Society in David's memory.
