Darren Carl Wood

1960 - 2026

It is with broken hearts and sadness that we are sharing the loss of our beloved Darren. He left this world to be with God after a short and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Darren was a graduate of ORHS in 1978 but had already begun his working career alongside his father at Dexter Construction. From there he spent 13 years at the Pugwash Salt Mine before retiring from full-time employment in Alberta. His incredible work ethic and skill as a heavy equipment operator earned him great respect and supervisory positions. More importantly to him were the lifelong friendships he gained along the way. He is survived by the love of his life for 45 years, his wife, the former Brenda Perry. Also left to mourn their hero are his children, Kristopher; Kody (Morgan); and Katelynn (Justin) Steeves; parents, Beth and Fraser; siblings, Graham (Michelle); Susan (Winston) Patriquin; Blair (Sandra); and Greg. His circle of love expanded even wider to include his many nieces and nephews, of whom he was extremely proud. He often said he was blessed with two amazing families, his and Brenda's. Darren was predeceased by his chosen Mom and Dad, Jack and Olive Perry; his loving grandparents; and son by heart, Jeremy Black. Darren's children were his pride and joy but nothing could compare to the happiness he felt when spending time with his newest loves, his beautiful grandchildren. Time spent with them will be missed the most but we find peace in knowing that Kaiden, Jackson, Kenzie, Brie, Blayke, Rhyder and Nate have their own guardian angel. It is difficult to describe a person using only one word but for us it is easy. Darren emanated the word kindness, the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate, driven by a genuine desire to help others without expecting anything in return. In a world where you can be anything PLEASE BE KIND. A service to celebrate Darren's life will be held at 2 pm Saturday, June 20th in St. James Presbyterian Church, Oxford . Donations can be made in Darren's memory to After the School Bell Food Program (click link to donate) .
