Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Cst. (Ret) Dale Reginald Banks on June 25th, 2025, in Springhill, NS, at the age of 75.

Dale was born on April 7, 1950, in Fredericton, NB, and was the second oldest of five siblings. He was a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who dedicated 32 and a half years to the force. Throughout his career, he worked in several communities across Nova Scotia, where he became known not only for his professionalism but also for the strong, respectful relationships he built with those he served. His greatest satisfaction came from helping others and making a meaningful difference in their lives. During his time in the RCMP, Dale was awarded a Nova Scotia Service medal, and a Long Service medal for 20 years of service.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Banks ("Sweet Thing"), children Jeffrey Banks (Marie), Jacqueline Langford (Mark), and stepson Dale Whynot (Nikki). He was known affectionately as 'Papa' by seven grandchildren: Abigail, Weston, Elijah, Shaylyn, Rosalie, Samuel, and Evelyn. He is also survived by four siblings: Gail Allen (Paul), Ken Banks (Linda), Judy Deveau, and Sherrie Melanson (Chris) along with numerous extended family members and friends. Dale was predeceased by his loving mother, Ruby Banks.

Dale was a devoted husband and his love for his wife, Deborah, was evident to everyone who knew them. Dale also cherished his children and grandchildren and often spoke of how proud he was of them. He enjoyed relaxing in the outdoors listening to his country music, playing cards, getting in a round of golf when he could, and was an avid Jeopardy! fan, never missing an 8:30 episode. He had a quiet demeanor, but his dry sense of humour was appreciated by those who knew him best.

Special thank you's to Dr. Ron Rondeau, Julie Adshade, the local RCMP and EHS members for their exceptional care, compassion, and dedication to Dale through the years. Their support and kindness brought comfort not only to him but to our entire family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 5 from 1-2 pm, followed immediately by a memorial service at 2 pm, both at MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford. Dale will be laid to rest during a private burial with immediate family to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter in Dale's honour.
