Patriquin, Charles Allen
- 86, Wentworth. It is with deep and profound sadness that the family of Charles Patriquin announces his passing with his family by his side, at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche, on February 15, 2024, following a short battle with cancer. Born in Greenville Station, he was a son of the late Ellsworth and Edith Patriquin. Charles was employed as an heavy equipment operator for many years on construction jobs and with the Department of Highways. He was also a County Councilor. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling but music was his passion and he spent many, many years sharing his talent as the lead singer with his band, The Country Echoes, and played for dances and special functions. Additionally, he was a member of the Cumberland Singers from the group's inception in 1982, for which he also performed the duties of MC. Charles also coordinated a monthly, musical afternoon at the Wentworth Recreation Center for many years with people traveling from near and far to dance, enjoy and play the music. He loved to travel, especially in his motorhome with family and friends, venturing to Newfoundland, across Canada to Alaska, Florida and many times to Nashville, Tennessee, where he was excited to actually meet and speak with several of his favorite Country Singers. He also enjoyed weekend camping at Bluegrass festivals. You never saw Charles without a smile and a hug for everyone - he was the life of the party with his wonderful sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to get together with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (nee Palmer) of 66 years; daughters, Kathy Underwood, Elmsdale; Kelly (Roy) Steeves, Wentworth; grandchildren, Andrew (Nelia) Underwood, Calgary; Derek (Andrea) Underwood, Mill Village; Jonathan Steeves (Leah Brander), Roslin; Justin (Katelynn) Steeves, Oxford; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Jackson, Kenzie, James and Mia; brothers, Glen (Hazel) Truro; Wesley (Cindy Perrin), Wentworth; Lyall (Cheryl), Collingwood; sisters-in-law, Shirley Patriquin, Greenville; Georgie Patriquin, Onslow; more than 50, much loved, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Julian (Jay) Underwood; brothers, Loran, Austin, Gerald, Hilton, Joey; sisters, Sally Coulter, Pearl Crowley and Jean Mooring. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Monday, February 19 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Homes & Crematorium. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
