Obituary

Watts, Brian Douglas – 66, of Amherst and formerly of River Philip, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Bruce & Myrna (Cunning) Watts. After deciding to leave the bustle of Ontario behind and moving to Nova Scotia, Brian and his wife Brenda owned and operated River Philip Old Country Store from 1990 to 2005. Outside of the business, he was a valued member of the community, as a member and former chief of the Collingwood Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of Widow's Son Lodge #48 in River Philip, and a member of the Amherst Defenders Chapter #11. Brian's truest joy came from spending time with his late wife, Brenda.  Camping, motorcycle rides, traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren were some of the happiest times of their lives. Brian is survived by his children Crystal (Chad) and Adam (Erin); grandchildren, Alex, Carter, Jaxon, Lily and Jonah; brother, Danny; sister Sharon. Brian was predeceased by his wife, Brenda; granddaughter, Jenna; and his brother, Gary. The family would like to thank the staff of VON, CRHCC and the VG in Halifax for their care and compassion over the last two years. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm Sunday, September 15th at MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford with a private graveside service following immediately. Donations may be made in Brian's memory to River Philip Cemetery.
