Bird, Betty Pauline - 93, Amherst, passed away April 13, 2026 in Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Doug and Anna (Sumara) Rushton. Betty attended Oxford High School and later graduated from Success Business College in Truro. She held administrative positions at the former Marshlands Mapping office in Amherst, Bill Dayman Enterprises and Highland View Regional Hospital, where she retired. Betty was a member of the Happy Neighbours Club for many years. She loved camping and attending many bluegrass festivals in the Maritimes. She was an avid card player at the Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club. Betty enjoyed dancing and playing piano while playing  and entertaining with with her musical friends at various local residences. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Bird; son, Peter Bird; grandchildren, Amanda Bird and Linda Lirette; great-grandchildren, Brayden Paugh and Makayla Lirette; sister-in-law and good friend, Joan Rushton. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; daughter, Katherine; brothers, Ralston and Paul Rushton; sisters, Helen Myatt and Georgina Rushton. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday, April 17 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium . Donations may be made to Leicester Cemetery or a charity of choice. Another way to honour Betty's memory is to do a random act of kindness.
