It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Aubrey Richard Gordon (Gordie to some) at Saint John, NB on 24 March, 2021. Aubrey was born in Folly Mountain, NS on 13 September, 1940, son of the late Ralph Allister and Annie Mae (Lynds) Gordon. Although tested by several serious ailments throughout his life, he always bounced back, and his indomitable spirit allowed him to build a successful business life in Vancouver, BC. Although living much of his life in BC, he moved back to his home province in later life, following the death of his beloved wife, Eleanor (Waugh). Aubrey was a very sociable person who developed friendships wherever he lived, always enjoying pleasant conversation, and occasionally spirited discussion about religion, politics and especially his favourite topic about our corrupted "common law" legal system, about which he had strong opinions. He could be quite strong-willed, but surprisingly malleable when faced with opposition in debates with his much-loved surviving sister, Thelma, with whom he had always enjoyed a great relationship, involving lots of teasing and good-humoured banter. Those debates always seemed to have an unwritten understanding there would be no winners and no losers; both being winners just by having had them. Such was their relationship. Besides his parents, and wife, Aubrey was predeceased by brothers Gerald, Earl, Elmer, Murray, Vernon, Harold and sister Florence Hollis. He is survived by his sister Thelma Redmond, fiancée Mary McGrath as well as many nieces and nephews in British Columbia and Nova Scotia. It was Aubrey's request there would be no formal funeral service, but a consecrated burial at a date to be announced. Anyone wishing to memorialize Aubrey's passing can make donations to any charity of their choice.
