Allan C.
Bonnyman
Feb 5, 1950 — Jun 28, 2026
Tatamagouche
Allan C. Bonnyman, woodsman, salmon fisher, devoted father, entrepreneur and proud son of Tatamagouche died suddenly on June 28, 2026. He is predeceased by his parents Carl and Jessie (Lynds) Bonnyman.
Allan, 76, is survived by sons Angus (Michael), and Alexander (Jana), his former wife, Sara and grandson, John. Allan leaves a void in the heart of those who knew him and will be remembered fondly for his passion for family, community and local business.
Allan was fiercely proud of his community, a third generation Scot who was always sure to pinch the penny. Allan spent the majority of his life living within a mile of his forefathers and would always answer the question, "Where are you from" with a gleeful "Tatamagouche, since 1827". Not interested in being the face of an organization, he worked in the background to introduce, renew or champion many facets of life in Tatamagouche. Many, many years after helping to build the North Shore Recreation Centre, his latest joy was supporting the installation of the new floor.
As a father and grandfather, Allan could not have been prouder of Angus, Alexander and John. In his sons' younger years, he was a Cub leader and in later years he was an ardent cheerleader. He made sure to attend, recognize and celebrate each accomplishment, hockey practice and professional achievement.
Allan was also a leader in the local business community. Bonnyman & Byers Ltd. was a staple in northern Nova Scotia and Allan was well-known as a wild blueberry grower. Allan's success was partly attributable to grit and partly to always looking ahead to find the next opportunity. He was always striving for his next project; however, occasionally he was too far ahead of his time.
Allan's other passions were many: from Lincoln toys, to fishing, to local history. He always loved a story and to talk.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 3rd at The Fraser Cultural Centre (362 Main Street) in Tatamagouche from 2-4 pm. Please make any donations to Sunny Brae Cemetery (P.O. Box 8, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia B0K 1V0. One of Allan's final wishes was that instead of a funeral, we all reach out to someone who could use some cheering up, and share the joy of life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
