Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, but also with gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Alfred Norman Bond on March 11, 2025, at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche. Born on December 26, 1955, Alfred grew up in Upper Rawdon, NS and spent his life shaping young minds, cracking jokes, and perfecting his golf swing (with mixed results).

Alfred dedicated his career to education, briefly in Sheet Harbour before teaching Phys Ed at Hants North Rural High, climbing the ranks to Vice Principal, then Principal, and finally retiring from South Colchester Academy. Whether on the court or in the classroom, he had a gift for making an impact.

A man of many talents, Alfred was an avid music lover, a talented guitar player, a passionate golfer, and a lifelong baseball fan. He also gave back to his community in countless ways, previously serving as a Municipal Councillor for East Hants and as Fire Chief of the Walton Shore Volunteer Fire Department.

Alfred is now reunited with his late wife Barbara, his sister Carol, his parents Evelyn and Frederick, his Aunt Anna whom he was very close to; and three siblings who passed in infancy. He leaves behind his daughters Angela and Erin, stepdaughters Amanda and Amy, and four cherished grandsons—Nolan, Beckett, Mateo, and Sam—who were the absolute lights of his life.

Though we wish we had more time with him, we take comfort in knowing he's likely on a golf course somewhere, making a miraculous putt and pretending it wasn't just luck. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Gail Brown, from Today's Nurse and the staff at Willow Lodge for their compassionate care and support in his final years.

A celebration of life will be held April 12, 2025 from 12pm-4pm at the Truro Curling Club. In lieu of flowers, please share a laugh, raise a glass, or swing a club in Alfred's honour.
