Obituary

MOORE, ALEXANDRA ROSS - Tatamagouche, NS. Alexandra (Sandy) Moore passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on January 20 th , 2022. Our Mom was born in Tatamagouche, NS to Alison Frederick and Annie Isabel Byers on November 10, 1940. She was predeceased by Brian, her husband of 50 years, in 2017. She is survived by her son Michael (Mariko Yuguchi) and daughter Jill (Patrick Kelly); her surviving siblings, Joan, Elaine, Jeanne, and Robert; and her grandchildren, Alex, Amy, Duncan and Nathan.

Sandy followed her path to become a teacher from an early age. At 17 she began teaching at a number of schools in Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Ontario. Not long after her arrival back home in Tatamagouche she chose to pursue her Masters' Degree at Mount Allison University on a part-time basis. She settled into Wallace Elementary School for the remainder of her 35-year career and retired as Principal in the fall of 1996.

Sandy was a woman of many talents. She loved music and was a skilled piano player and singer. She was also an avid reader and writer. She loved the beach, gardening, yoga, bird watching, being out in nature, and completing the daily Herald crossword without fail, up to her final days. Of all things in her personal life, she particularly loved socializing and being active with a close group of loving, supportive friends and spending time with her husband Brian in and around the quiet of their home they built.

We will remember Sandy for her generosity, welcoming gentle nature, graciousness, wit, sense of humour, and her wonderful laugh. She was greatly loved by her students, family, and friends, and we will miss her terribly. Many thanks to Dr. Dan MacDonald, Dr. Israel Babatunde Ajayi, and Ms. Martha Underwood for their exemplary care of our Mom. At Sandy's request there will be no funeral service. The family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date. Donations can be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the charity of your choice.
